I.K. Dairo who made juju into a modern sound. With Decca West Africa, he pioneered a new juju, making it a national music behind the unique sound of his accordion.
The cuts here largely follow a formula — the melody started on guitar or accordion, then a verse or two followed by a percussion break, then the call-and-response singing with the talking drum — it’s a wonderful one of his invention and it works perfectly, as the music moves along both melodically and rhythmically.
The band is tight and Dairo himself is a star, both as singer and musician, with a feel for this that’s obvious in every note.
Think of this as classic Dairo, the music progressing in complexity with every song and becoming something reinvented and modern.
The perfect music to get enchanted.
