Description

Born in 1942, named Ebenezer Remilekun Aremu Olasupo Obey-Fabiyi

He began his professional career in the 50’s after tutelage under “Fatai Rolling Dollar” another popular lagos musician.

He formed the band “International Brothers” in 1964 which later evolved into “Inter-reformers” in the 70s

Obey began experimenting with Yoruba percussion style and expanding on the band by adding more drum kits and talking drums. Obey’s musical strengths lie in weaving intricate Yoruba axioms into dance floor compositions. As is characteristic of Nigerian Yoruba social circle music, the Inter-Reformers band excel in praise singing for rich Nigerian socialites and business tycoons. Obey, however, is also renowned for christian spiritual themes in his music and has since the early 1990s retired into Nigerian gospel music ministry.

On this album he says ” Aiyee wa atooro” meaning “our lives shall experience progressive success; as confession after offering prayers to the God of heaven. One thing you would enjoy from such music asides the lyrics (if you understand them) is the harmonization of the strings and the drums. Some of his titles are even popular sang in churches today.
