This artwork shows an Igbo Man playing the Oja. Oja is a musical instrument in Igbo Land (People in South East of Nigeria). In Igbo Land, Musical instruments like Oja are not only created or adapted to make musical sounds, Musical instruments are not only used for making music, they are also used to communicate to both man and spirit, translating and emitting daily experiences and events

Oja which is one of the most important Igbo musical instruments is made out of wood and is carved into different shapes and lengths. In some parts of Igbo land Oja is believed to choose and speak to its master.

Aside from the general Oja masters(ogbuoja) who perform and entertain people at a festival, Most Oja Masters are assigned to Kings, Very reverend Masquerade and a hero of a community, most especially a Warriors. The Ojamaster blows through the mouth hole and the sound is made by the fingers stopping the hole in the side of the instrument. The masquerade dance in igbo land is not complete without the Oja.

This artwork placed on a wood is an ideal decoration for your room.
