Description

In the town where Christmas lives year-round, the new year promises a new beginning, a new life, and renewed hope for two lonely hearts….In the past, Christmas had been anything but joyous for Kiki Long. Born into a prominent family, her parents sold her the family home years ago and moved to California, leaving her alone in her hometown, where Christmas never sleeps. Not wanting to leave Christmas Cove, Kiki finds herself alone on Christmas Eve. Firefighter Taren Davis is also no stranger to loneliness. After marrying his high school sweetheart much too young, his wife left him years ago to raise his young daughter alone. But now, his ex-wife is back and wants more than he can give. In high school, Taren was the muscled jock and Kiki was the Emo artist. But after a chance meeting on Christmas Eve, fate brings them together again. Will the promise of a new year and the magic of the holiday season be enough to reunite these two weary souls? Or will the new year be their undoing? As time ticks down the minutes to the quickly approaching new year, two young hearts want to believe in love again. In the season of renewed hope, the magic of Christmas Cove may be what they need to make this the most joyous and promising New Year’s yet.

The joys of motherhood is a gripping fascinating tale of a woman - Nnu Ego who gives everything away to the cultural responsibility of a woman needing to be fertile and produce sons.  The Joys of Motherhood is a fundamental text in the wider cannon of Nigerian postcolonial literature.  The story of Nnu Ego will stay with the reader for a long, long time.

We Should All Be Feminists

Books & Magazines
$5.00 $4.00
The book - We Should All Be Feminists can be read as a preliminary to get women's liberation. While the writer shares her experiences of confronting gender-based discrimination and those of her loved ones in Nigeria, the issues introduced in the book are as yet general in the sense, individuals across the world can identify with them. The two aspects of the books that I have basically centered on in this review are: the stereotypical idea of feminism and the word feminist; and the process of normalization. Different issues talked about by the creator are: invisibilization, pay gap, raising young ladies and young men in an unexpected way, culture and gender.

A Woman Alone is a collection of autobiographical writings, sketches, and essays that covers the entire span of Bessie Head's creative life, up to her death in 1986 at the age of 49. Born the child of a wealthy South African white woman and a black servant who tended to the woman's family's race horses, Head's birth is apparently considered a scandal.  Up to her death in 1986 at the age of 49.

Americanah

$6.00 $4.80
From the award winning creator of We Should All Be Feminists - the story is about the narrative of two Nigerians advancing in the U.S. also, the UK, bringing up widespread issues of race, having a place, the abroad experience for the African diaspora, and the quest for identity and a home. Ifemelu and Obinze are youthful and in love when they left military-administered Nigeria for the West. Delightful, confident Ifemelu sets out toward America, where regardless of her scholarly achievement, she is compelled to wrestle with being dark for the first time. Calm, smart Obinze had would have liked to join her, however with post-9/11 America closed to him, he rather dives into a risky, undocumented life in London. After fifteen years, they rejoin in a recently democratic Nigeria, and reignite their passion for one another and for their country.

Chinua Achebe's 1964 novel Arrow of God depicts an Ibo pioneer as he defies the British directors and missionaries in his town. The novel spotlights on Ezeulu, who is the High Priest of Ulu. Ulu is the main divinity in the town of Umuaro, and he united six warring towns to create a strong community that shares fundamental beliefs however preserve local village traditions. Since Ezeulu is half god and half man, he battles to recognize what is human will and what is heavenly will. This contention becomes more relevant as new difficulties, in the form of British position and Christian religion, question the pecking orders and convictions whereupon the community was built.
